The cost of war
I am a flip flopper, when the Iraqi war started, I was convinced by my government that Iraq threatened our national security. I remember the fear of nuclear bombs and chemical and biological poisoning from Saddam Hussein. I remember saying that the United Nations were a bunch of wimps and they will let this guy blow up the world, even though they said that he was pretty much harmless. Like almost everyone in this country, I wanted my president to take care of business and go in and keep us safe. I stayed up at night to watch the Hummers and tanks invade Iraq, worried that the next bomb or mortar would contain those biological weapons or that a massive nuclear attack would happen and wipe out most of our military.
Now, we ALL know that none of that was true.. none of it.. but somehow people still find a way to justify this war. call me a flip flopper.. I don't care. There are only two ways to look at the war and why we are there now. One is that the information that we had on Iraq was wrong.. yes, Saddam was a terrible dictator, but look around the world.. there are a lot of terrible dictators.. what do you think happens if you steal something in Saudi Arabia? What is going on in Sudan right now? So, if we went in based on bad information, then who did those first 50 bombs fall on? They didn't hit all of their targets did they? The other reason would be that George W and Dick Cheney had this planned all the time.. that they used our fear, that they mislead us into war for another reason, because it was convenient at the time because they wanted to invade Iraq anyway, that it is because of the oil reserves and not a dictator or WMDs or nuclear threat.. and to me that is looking more and more like it is true. After all.. there are two countries righ now with legitimate nuclear threats.. Iran and North Korea and we are doing nothing about that... as if we could right now.
Some will say that we should stay the course, that we should not change leaders.. I disagree. If you have a leader in any business or lets say a Governor who has bankrupted your state.. do you keep him or her in office to make them fix it.. even though they have been completely inept as a leader so far? Do we want George W and his cronies to continue milking us dry.
Here are some of the numbers in Iraq... I blame it all on George W. Bush... Look at the number of civilian casualties as a result of this war.
I urge you to ask yourself why you don't hear about how many Iraqis have been killed.. and this is the civilian body count.. not the Iraqi militia.. this is children and mothers and fathers.. the very people that our administration wants us to believe that we are freeing in the name of democracy.
Forgive me for ranting about this.. I have no place else to do it.
