Monday

M and I found deals at yard sales, and stores that were getting rid of their summer gear. The backyard is looking great. I'll take some more photos soon. We painted the patio furniture, got a big pot or the deck and I planted a bush that is going to be a bonsai tree.

Today, I got up early, got on a plane, flew to Dallas and then off to Amarillo, Texas. I had to do a little driving in my Buick rent a car, and I saw one strange and ugly thing and one that made me laugh.

The first was the ugly thing. As I drove through Amarillo, there was this terrible smell. I had my windows down in the Buick and I couldn't figure out what it was, but then I noticed this big huge truck up in front of me and thought that it must be filled with garbage. It wasn't a typical garbage truck, it was one of those huge dumping trucks that you see on the side of the road dumping loads of rock or dirt. As I got closer I noticed that it wasn't garbage it was rotting carcasses.... that's right, big huge rib bones sticking out of the top of the open topped truck bed, with flesh hanging off of them. This truck probably fit at least 150 rotting carcasses... (sorry if you were eating dinner) It was the ugliest thing that I ever saw and now the smell was making me nauseous. I sped up, put on the cruise control and was surprised when this thing caught up to me and passed me. I decided to let it go and slowed down. Where were those bones going? Not that I really want to know.


Then came the funny part. I was crusing along down highway 87 towards Plainview, TX and I saw this sign... Next Exit, Happy,TX. I had to use the facilities so I hopped off the highway and right into Happy. I wish I took a picture of the sign as I left this little town... "now leaving Happy"


I spoke to Alex's teacher today, he seemed distant.. I am sure his mother got to him first. He said he would communicate via email. I hope he does.

Have a happy week... oh btw, Happy, TX is nothing more than an exit on the road... not really all that happy either.
