Cube land
I work in a cube.. I am guessing that it is about 5ft by 7ft and the door/opening is right behind me. During the day very few people really walk behind me and I feel relatively invisible here. I do my job.. make my calls.. have some very long conversations with people, sign up a few for school. It's been busy lately, busy in the sense that I have a lot to do, but not much going on. Yesterday, there was a big tragedy in my little cube land, I spilled my coffee in the middle of a call with my father. I told him that I had to go after I gasped at the hot liquid hitting my khaki pants. I was wearing a dark shirt, so the stain didn't show...I went to the restroom to attempt to clean up the massive coffee stain on my pants. You know how that works.. I only managed it make it lighter and larger, if I got the entire pant leg wet, I could have had one very large light stain.
I hear people talking in other cubes, some are laughing, having those "morning" conversations. Someone sneezes across the wall and I break that invisibility for a moment to say... "Bless you"
My cube is decorated with a few photos, some junk that has followed me from job to job... mostly dried out pens and unused pencils. There is a map of the U.S. with area codes, so thanks to caller ID when the phone rings, I know where you are from. I have three calendars. One is little, it is on a magnet... a gift from a realtor that doesn't realize that I covered up his card with my own, a big wall calendar quotes Psalms from he Bible each month, it has a little cork board on the bottom to put notes on... for some reason, I save all my little notes.. I have a stack of used up post it notes. The other calendar was a gift from my father and it sits on my desk. It is from The O'Reilly factor... my Dad must like that guy, but each day I read a bit of his well... I don't what to call it, because he seems to have very little to say. Today it says that you should "think deeply about your gifts; identify them clearly; then find out how to use them to MAKE MONEY!" Ok, Bill.. thanks for the note... and thanks for the home selling tip, unknown realtor "Many home buyers go on first impressions...." and thanks Psalms 95:1-2 "Oh Come, let us sing to the Lord!". Thanks for reminding me that today is just another day.. another day in cube land.
I cross off the days on the small calendar... I forgot to cross off yesterday, but I won't forget today.. I have already crossed it off.
