What kind of music do you like? What is your favorite song? Do you have a favorite band? Best concert you have ever seen? ok.. that's 4 questions :)
I like so many different kinds of music. In college, my love for music really started. Somehow, I got into punk rock. Now... this was back in the early eighties and the start of punk rock. People were doing the Pogo and slam dancing. I hung out with bands like JFA, Black Flag and The Circle Jerks. I worked in a skate shop and became a regular at some of the local clubs. They would save me a parking space for my 1969 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible... all black. Since then I have loved alternative music, but I have to admit that I find it hard to listen to some of it today. I have always wondered when I would start to feel old.. when my musical tastes would stop being hungry for something new. Every now and then I listen to the 80s station and I know the words to every song. Music that used to be considered too "edgy" for mainstream radio now is played in supermarkets and elevators. Lately, I have been searching for something even newer and I found some alternative country music webites. I never liked country, but I liked that old twangy Buck Owens stuff.. "I've got a tiger by the tail....." and I love Johnny Cash. During my college years, I went through my Ska period, my Rockabilly period(even appeared on an album) and my Hard core period. I know it shaped me for life. Now, when I see Avril Lavigne looking all 'punky' it makes me laugh. I used to buy my clothes at thrift shops so I didn't look like anyone else. Everyone I knew had their very own style. Some of those unique styles caught on. I still have my all white creepers that I special ordered from London... and they look very tame today.. even though Johhny Rotten had a pair back then. So.. today when i see a 'Punk" I have to laugh inside at the conformity of 'punkdom'
So, I occasionally listen to music from the past.. and sometimes I like classical and jazz, but most of the time I want to hear something that not too many people are listening to. The internet is good for that, you can find just about anything out there.
I do love U2, ever since I saw them open for the J. Geils Band... in 1982... I remember seeing the English Beat open for the Clash.. there were only about 500 people at the concert. I saw Black Flag play in a wrestling ring.. Henry Rollins doing acid drops off of the top rope. Today, I listened to Dave Mathews on the CD player... and this weekend while I cleaned the house.... it was a combination of Sun Records giants..Elvis, Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins.. then Coldplay.. then Badly Drawn Boy to finish up.
So... my tastes in music are eclectic I guess...
