happiness
Today I heard Wayne Coyne from the flaming lips talk about what makes him happy and I was thinking about it... the truth is, Happiness is the absence of things that make you unhappy isn't it?
Being at peace or carefree, trying to determine what makes you happy is difficult. On the other hand, we know what makes us unhappy and it usually is that part that we can control... maybe.
for example, some people will say that Money will make them happy, but what they are really saying is, if you eliminate my worry that I will be able to pay my bills.. it's not the money, it is the absence of worry.
So, we burden ourselves with fear and sadness and guilt and anxiety and worry and sometimes jealousy and envy.. all of these things can make you unhappy.
So what makes you happy... not having any of those... which may not be possible, but I would like call it oblivious happiness. Sometimes I feel that way... when I sit with my new baby and my wife and I have no cares in the world.. but then some cares creep in, what about college education, what about Alex and Andy...etc.. etc... but then again. What can I control right now?
You think about it and those that are extremely driven, are never really that happy, they don't allow themselves to kick back and enjoy life a little bit because they would lose their edge.
And then, there are those that are content... not that they have lost their drive, but they are happy with a simple life.
simple meaning.... less worries, less anxiety, less envy, less guilt, less....
Happiness comes down to removing those things that will make us unhappy... not adding anything it all.
